History of the Department

B.Com course was started in the College during 2004-05 and M.Com Programme during the year 2012-13.  The Department has excelled itself with a number of laurels in the form of University ranks and distinctions. The Department achieved its greatest heights by upgrading itself as a Research Centre in Commerce under the University of Kerala during 2014-15.

An endless journey of discovery, moving from the known to the unknown, from darkness to light towards an ever expanding horizon of knowledge in business and management.

Mission:

To fulfill the educational needs of a culturally diverse student body by achieving excellence in teaching and learning to make them competent professionals as benchmarked by industries

HOD’s message

The Department of Commerce, even though, started recently has become an inevitable part of Government College for Women, Trivandrum, be it in terms of academic laurels of our students, participation of faculty members of the department in all the main activities of the College or in terms of advisory services rendered to faculty members for income tax filing etc.  The Department has no dearth for ranks as our students are the toppers in the University examinations. To add to its glory, 11 research scholars have been awarded Ph.D. from our research centre. The Department has a reservoir of 1952 books.

Department Resources

The Department of Commerce has two smart class rooms equipped with LCD television and Overhead Projector.  The Department has a full-fledged library which has a collection of 1952  books.

Research

The Department of Commerce was upgraded to a Research Department in the year 2014-15 and till now 16  research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D in Commerce under the Department and the four of the faculty members are research guides. 13 scholars have been   awarded Ph.D from the Department Research Centre.
